FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE — October, 2020 Author Serena B. Miller Illuminates Early Years of Amish Matriarch Bertha Troyer
Minford, Ohio — A decade ago author Serena B. Miller introduced her readers to Bertha Troyer, cherished aunt of Rachel and eldest of the three Amish sisters in her inaugural book “Love’s Journey in Sugarcreek: The Sugar Haus Inn.”
Now Miller winds back the clock more than 60 years in the fourth installment of the Sugarcreek Series, “Bertha’s Resolve.” 19-year-old Bertha must make the most important decision of her life after reading a call to action from Haiti—should she follow her heart or the expectations of her Amish community?
Miller had a clear vision of Bertha’s personality and qualities before the character ever appeared in her debut novel.
“Bertha landed on the page fully formed,” says Miller. “Her compassion, her bossiness and her strength of will came directly from my mind as a complete person who knew who she was. She simply let me tell her story as the words flowed.”
She adds that her character development process has evolved over the past 10 years from one of planning to discovery. “All of my characters surprise me as much as I hope they surprise the readers.”
“Miller is a talented author who writes from her heart and brings the reader on a wonderful journey. Her characters are always strong both in mind and spirit,” remarks Patsy Glans of Romantic Times.
A USA Today best-selling author, Miller is winner of the Romance Writers of America RITA, the American Christian Fiction Writers CAROL and was a finalist for the CHRISTY. Her first movie, “Love Finds You in Sugarcreek,” was based on her debut novel, which won the coveted Templeton Award. Her second movie, “An Uncommon Grace,” was based on her book with the same title and aired on Hallmark in 2017.
